I Begin This Week Highly Motivated By Powerful Figures That Reflect An Unfinished Agenda - Toyin Saraki
Few hours ago Toyin Saraki, wife to thr immediate past Senate President of The Federal Republic of Nigeria shares on her IG page :
" 67% - The share of all maternal deaths that can be averted through achieving universal health coverage through midwife-led continuity of care."
"64% - The share of newborn deaths that can equally be averted through adequate midwife-delivered interventeions by 2035."
"4.3 million- The total number of lives that can be saved annually by 2035, through a substantial reduction of maternal and neonatal mortality and stillbirths, most especially in LMICs."
"Global studies show us that when midwives are adequately educated and regulated according to international standards, they can provide more than 80% of the essential care needed for women and neonates, From fewer preterm births to fewer fetal lossses at any gestation, and high rates of positive experiences and health outcomes for women, midwife-led continuity of care has been associated with positive outcomes around the world."
"But the health and care workforce is still not operating at its full capacity. With a shortage of healthcare workers concentrated in Africa, southeast Asia, annd the Eastern Mediterranean - adequate resources, ample training, capacity building and reflective leadership are all requisite to getting our health and care workforce up to scratch."
"The need to recognise our doctors, midwives and nurses as the true backbone of our health system, our interlocutors in achieve longer and healthier lives, and ensuring they get the support needed to make and keep our world healthy for all is essential to a better way forward.
