"Sex without consent is rape"- Toyin Saraki

" The ongoing conflict in north-east Nigeria, attributed to Boko Haram and banditry, is a horrendous and distressing situation that we must do more to eradicate. The abduction of women and girls into forced marriages, sexual slavery and/or carriers of explosives is a disturbing feature of the ongoing conflict. Worse still: being ostracised and stigmatised by original communities hampers the reintegration of returnees, which leads to further exclusion from social protection, and those negative effects are compounded for mothers of children born from rape.⁣
On International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict today, I call on Nigerian authorities to ensure accountability for crimes of sexual violence. Further- I call on you to ensure psycho-social support for women and girl survivors to integrate them safely back into society. Comment 💪🏿 if you agree. It's only with the strength, understanding and kindness of all of us that we will be able to pressure for real change to prevent sexual violence, in conflict, and in Nigeria.⁣
