THE SCHOOL,THE COLONIAL LORDS & THE CONCEPT OF MODERNIZATION.
Over the years since the Advent of GSM in Nigeria, dating back to a time around or before 2003,alot of changes as occured in vastly all sphere of life, new technology as evolved and more will still evolve, the internet as made our world a global village and information as also become readily available online.
Likewise teaching is not what it used to be,it's evolving as well.
Alot of occupations as improved from what it use to be,a result of easy research on the internet and no doubt, the internet as played a great role in our civilization, civilization brings both good and bad changes but no doubt the good greatly out-ways the bad changes
Only a blind cave man will refuse to be flexible on issues of civilization and the modernization that tags with it.
Civilization and modernization are like Siamese twin, you can't be civilized and refuse to embrace change (modernization).
The teaching profession as always been known to be the oldest profession ever and over time the internet as made teaching less tedious and interesting as research is now more easy to carry out, even in the comfort of your abode or anywhere at anytime as long as you have a device that as internet service on it.
There are proves everywhere of the embrace of modernization (change) by the education sector!!!
Methodology of teaching as changed over time,a proof of this modernization,is the recent education policy that changes mathematics and english language to numeracy and literacy accompanied with a different method of teaching - a prove of civilization and modernization.
It will be sad and regrettably dismiss-able if school management doesn't exactly understands what it takes to run a truly successful school, putting into consideration the relationship between teachers, teachers and school management, teachers and pupils, management and pupils, school and the community and the day to day running of the school.
There are terrible historical traits existing in our schools amongst teachers to management and management to teachers in cases where incapable hands are put in position of school management.
The local board should take cognizance of the competency of school managers before appointment - as a bad managed school poses threat to smooth dissemination of information.
I always say that school should be 'half-treated' as a spiritual territory because it's an organization supposedly expected to be able to mode characters and make great minds - the school speaks 'half-way' to the pupils mind compared to religious institutions that we go to,to learn about God and pray to the most high.
Teachers are teachers worst enemy, sometimes i wondered why teaching having been the oldest profession as claimed, still feels 'half-primitive' with the conventional ways of doing and 'running' things.
Sometimes teachers portray themselves backwards in their approach to issues that centers around their work and coexistence amongst management and teachers of a school.
Communal right to schools sighted in a particular community is a progressive thought as it should yield more advantage as the interest of the school to succeed should be immensely great amongst the indigenes and residence of such community, but for a staff(s) or management of a school to be having sense of entitlement devoid of intent to grow the school is wrong and should be curbed.
The local boards should investigate properly every complains brought before them before believing the messanger of such complaint.
It should be made known that teaching is an 'emotionally sensitive' job if good information flow is to be maintained!!!.
Some school managers are colonial Lord's who might just want to prove superiority by victimization or power drunk and thus loose focus. Its shameful if such exists in a teaching organization and if left to strive without curbing it.
Why must it be curbed???!- the pupils learn a great deal indirectly from happenings around the school and an 'unsafe' teaching environment might just teach the kids bad moral standard.
Why make an unqualified personnel a school head?
I suggest that their should be human relations test or a seminar on human management before appointing a school head.
The school management should be responsible for everything happening in and around the school.
Incompetency is not an excuse when it comes to school management and it should be looked into seriously before selecting who manages the affair of a school in our quest to give Kwara kids a good education.
Only qualified and competent hand is advisable to be appointed to manage a school.
A school needs a good manager and not someone who doesn't understand the rudiments of running a conducive learning environment.
