"PROFESSOR O.O AKINKUGBE: PASSAGE OF A COLOSSUS.
I join the medical community in Nigeria, UCH Ibadan alumni and
hordes of other people across the world to mourn the transition to greater glory of emeritus Professor of Medicine, Prof O. O Akinkugbe.
He was not just an accomplished medical professional of immense renown; he was an international icon of scholarship, human capital development, discipline and trans-generational mentorship.
I feel greatly privileged to have tapped from his well of knowledge and deep counsel. In his memory, one of the legacies we must evolve is a culture of prioritizing quality medical care for all citizens. We have a duty to continue to explore workable mechanisms to achieve this.
Optimized revitalisation and utilisation of the primary healthcare system is cardinal to achieving one of the legacies in healthcare delivery envisioned by Professor O. O Akinkugbe.
As Kwara State Government under the helmsmanship of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq continues to revamp PHCs across the state, the local government areas need to reciprocate this gesture by devoting needed resources and expertise to this critical aspect of citizens welfare.
May God's light of mercy shine perpetually on the much beloved soul of Prof. O.O Akinkugbe. Farewell, great teacher!
